Oil Based Paint

The oil based paint  more forgiving than latex paints when it comes to painting in cold weather. They bond better and cure harder than most latex paints. They typically take longer to dry and cure than latex paints do and as a result to need a longer stretch of optimal condition to achieve a quality end product. If inclement weather is due the next day  latex paint would be ready, but an oil based paint would not be.

To always check the label on the paint you purchase. Every brand and product line is different. Paint in cold weather to longer drying  time. Higher temperatures allow for faster dry and cure time and most manufacturers will tell you how to the paint will need to dry based on the temperature. If temperatures were lower than the allowed minimum the night before. Otherwise, the air temperature could be above the minimum, whereas the surface is still below it.
